Lucille van Straten, an artist from The Netherlands, is passionate about urban art.
Over the years, she has visited cities all over the world. She is continually curious about and inspired by the unexpected around the corner, hiding in little alleyways and in court yards.
She observes people, traffic, the way buildings reach to the sky and fill your view completely. She is fascinated by wet markets, smells, the grubbiness of alleyways, dirt, endless rows of air-conditioners, smog and decay and the juxtaposition of mixing traditional buildings with contemporary architecture.
Where the architect finished, she’ll take over…
She takes pictures, experiments and absorbs all these sensations and impressions and translates her perspective onto paper and canvas.
This has turned into an expanding collection of art works using oil paint on canvas, photography and mixed media. The urbanart-collection in particular is growing strongly.
Cities that inspire her most are:
Hongkong, New York, Beijing, Kuala Lumpur, Istanbul , Venice, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Berlin, Bangkok
